Jaggerboy --------- Jul Det' Cool (1993, 28.12, Demo). 21st in The Party 93 demo competition. Jam (1993-) ----------- FRA> Mad (Madelon Olivier, founder org). Jam was formed early 1993 as a French group. Jesters ------- ENG> Accel (music, 92), , Death, FX (founder), Lord Flight (founder), Merlin, Phreak (founder gfx, 92), Sim (code, 92). ???> Uncle Len (ex Archaos). Jesters is an English demo group formed by Phreak, FX and Lord Flight from another English group, Destiny. Dentro (1992, early, ECS Intro). code: Sim, gfx: Phreak, music: Accel. Jetset [old] (1991-1991) ------------------------ The original Jetset was born in march 93 (after Pussy changed their name to Jetset at the RAF conference), and was one of the biggest Dutch groups in their prime, but unfortunately died later in the year. They were later reborn as a Skid Row subgroup, producing their intros and demos. Jayce made music for the famous dutch Axis trackmo "Unknown Territory", and is also in the new Jetset. Major-Midi joined Energy. The Swedish division joined Vogue mid 91. Jetset [new] (1992-1996) ------------------------ N-L> Apache (sysop 'BLACK BOX' WHQ), Dem, Seck-4 (mainorg gfx, 01/93), The Boss (sysop 'CROSSED BONES'), Vortex (code, ex Scoopex, new early93). BEL> Maddy (sysop 'METAL IMPACT', ex Fusion). GER> Nose (gfx, ex Alcatraz, 94), Oli (ex Paradise), Phex (swap, ex Alcatraz, old handle Stearo), Sam (music, ex Paradise, 94), Skull (swap, ex Misery/Noxious, late93). SWE> Striker (sysop 'FLASHTRADE'). FIN> Gamma (gfx music, ex Sonic). BAH> Psychlop (trade), Quantum (trade). ???> Coyote (ex Desire, new late92), Jeff, Murdock (ex Cyanide, new mid93). The new Jetset was reborn late 1992, and was a Skid Row subgroup for a while, doing the usual cracktro duties. This partnership was later dissolved (likely sometime in 1993), and Jetset continued as a demogroup in their own right. 1993 - The musicdisk "Overload 2" [01/93] won the demo competition at the Holand is OK party in january, bringing the new year to a great start for the group! 1994 - German coder Raw Style (ex Alcatraz, 94) left to join Complex late this year. 1996 - Finally Jetset died late this year, when the remaining Dutch members - Bullock (gfx), Eros (gfx), Jayce (music), Red Dwarf (code) and Timeless (music) - fusioned into the group Royal. Dutchmen Jay-One (gfx) and Steroid (swap, both ex Freestyle) both left to join the new Axis. German swappper Dark (ex Noxious, doublememb Skid Row) left to join TRSI. Dutch coder Magician Lord and British musician Hollywood (both ex Freestyle, 93) left to join Movement. Dutchmen IKillr (01/93), Eswat (01/93) and Timeless joined Paradox. News in RAW6, and confirmed in the "Black Box" demo. Timeless was later back in Jetset, and was one of the members who later went on to Royal. Storm (ex Godfather/Spaceballs) joined DCS. Black Box (ECS Trackmo). code: Magician Lord, gfx: Seck-4, Eswat, IKillr, music: Hollywood. Review: More of a slideshow than a demo, really, but not without entertainment value. The graphics are all in the rather unique Jetset style, i.e. graffitti. The music is a sort of old-style house, and it's certainly NOT one of Hollywood's strongest tunes. All in all? It does the job it was intended to, I suppose, and some of the logos are cool... I'd give it 5 out of 10. There is absolutely no indication anywhere as to the release date of this demo... Anyone? [glenn] GLE tested A1200/030-50/2mb chip, 4mb fast/3.0. Overload (1991, ECS Musicdisk). Overload 2 (1993, 24.01, ECS Musicdisk). code: I Killed Her, gfx: Seck-4, Eswat, music: Jayce. Winner of the Holland is OK Party 93 demo competition! info: The design is from the Braun European Top 20 TV show on MTV. Tag (1993, early, ECS Disk). code: Magician Lord, gfx: Seck-4, Eswat, music: Hollywood. Armageddon (1994, Demo). code: Raw Style, gfx: Nose, music: Sam. info: Reviewed in Propaganda #4 (mid 94), where it was mentioned that the best bits were the music and some plasma routines, but that it was overall an average Jetset demo in the usual graffitti style... Jetspeed -------- Jetspeed joined forces with the cooperation group Triangle, and participated in the making of a few of their demos. Jewels ------ DEN> Al Bundy (org swap), Chorus (music, ex Razor 1911 new, 95), Condor (Mikkel S. Kiil, swap, ex Razor 1911 new), Future (code), Knox (gfx homepage, 95), Ricky (code), Scoop (code), Speedy (trade sysop, ex Speedy [the group]). SWE> Dynamex (code), Eracore (gfx raytrace), Guardian (sysop), Huz (trade), Keldon (Kenneth Fajkowski, swap trade, 96), Randall (music), Shapechanger (trade ascii), Sniffet (gfx). ???> Hekke (den? code, 95). Lots of the Swedes were in Suburban Base earlier/later... Is Danish coder Ricky the same guy that coded some late The Silents DK demos? Swedish graphician and organizer MRK doublejoined Subspace, and later surfaced as a member of Sunshine Productions. Musician Sid (ex Razor 1911 new, 95) left the scene to pursue a professional music career. Chorus will continue to compose on his own. Sid contributed to the musicdisk "Crossroads" [95]. Dane Illusion joined Iris. Crossroads (1995, summer, Musicdisk). code: Hekke, gfx: Knox, music: Chorus and Sid. John Alpmar & Co ---------------- Your Astral Pilot (1996, 16.06, Demo). 6th in the Remedy 96 demo competition. Joker ----- POL> Dalthon (code, 11/96). Frank Frazetta part 4 (1995, 30.04, OCS 64k Intro). code/gfx: Dalthon, music: Peters. Released for the Eastern Conference 1995 64k intro competition. review: Don't know how classify this strange production. From one side it looks like non standard intro but from second hand it's a mini slideshow for sure! Everything start with emulation of old zx-spectrum's boot sequence. We can see a typical basic screen and somebody is listing dir, after while choses a Frank4.exe file and launchs it. Joker's logo and nice chip music appear. Here follow 8 grayscaled (16 col.) pictures, 3 in hi- res laced and 5 in low-res resolution. Wonderful. When all graphics are showed a standard choose menu becomes visible and under it scroller starts to flow. Operating by mouse you're able to watch every picture one more time. Dalthon is known for his talent of making short but great executables and as we see "Frank Frazetta" is a good example. Production preffered to all "long time ago..." maniacs. [kempy] Chunky Blitter (1996, 10.11, ECS 4k Intro). code: Dalthon, gfx: none, music: n/a. 5th in the Gravity 96 4k intro competition. review: We watch the flashing 'please wait' text for a while, before being catapulted into a world of fractal based effects. The intro looks quite good, using a sort of smoothing effect that doesn't retract too much from the overall impression. The intro also contains quite a lot more than I expected it to; it pumped out at least three good effect variations after I was convinced the show was over. Then, after it's all done, and the coder credit appears, a small tune is played! It's a bit of a mystery why Dalthon didn't play the tune during the intro... The text file that comes with this is in Polish. [glenn] GLE tested A1200/030-50/2mb chip, 16mb fast/3.0. Jolly (JLY) ----------- HOL> Cloak (code sysop 'APHRODITE', 12/96), Jazz (music sysop 'LOONY TOONZ', 12/96), Maverick (sysop 'XTREME ELEGANCE', 96), MJK (gfx, 96), MSW (sysop 'THE OASE', 96), Probe (gfx, 12/96), Protonic (sysop 'PARTYZONE', 96), Xenon (sysop 'CLUBX', 96). Definitly Baby (1996, ECS Intro). code: Cloak, gfx: Probe, MJK, music: Jazz (THX format). review: I thought I liked this, based on viewing and not least listening to the main part for a little while. So I pressed the left mouse button to write a favourable review...and quickly found there was a small extra part, announcing some BBS numbers. And playing a THX rendition of the Bubble Bobble theme. One of my favourite games. Containing one of my favourite tunes. Do I need to draw you a picture? NOSTALGIA HEAVEN! Some further investigation reveals that this one was probably written using AMOS! No wonder it's ECS then... It's their first ever intro. [glenn] GLE tested A1200/030-50/2mb chip, 4mb fast/3.0. Christmas Demo (1996, .12, ECS Intro). code: Cloak, gfx: Probe, music: Jazz (THX format). review: A three-hour quickie, and it shows. Still, you can't be anything but charmed by Jazz' THX tunes. Damn! THX is forcing me to like stuff I'd otherwise abbhorr! :( [glenn] GLE tested A1200/030-50/2mb chip, 4mb fast/3.0. Opaque (1997, .02, Musicdisk). info: A THX music disk, with music by Jazz anf MJK, announced in their "Definitly Baby" intro. Considering the cool tunes in that one, it's probably one to look out for! ;) Eau de Table P. (1997, 30.03, Demo). 12th in the Mekka Symposium 97 demo competition. Jormas, Da (JRM, http://www.jormas.com/) ---------------------------------------- Da Jormas is a none-too-serious Finnish demogroup. 1998 - Their intro "Elektrik Baby" [08/98] reached the fourth position at Assembly. If There Was No Gravity... (1995, 15.10, AGA File). review: Nice design and overall weirdness. [glenn] GLE tested A1200/030-50/2mb chip, 4mb fast/3.0. Detroit (1996, 17.08, ECS 64k Intro). code: Vesuri, Hirvih, gfx: Pam, Naksahtaja, Huputuna, music: "Mind Leap - Editx" by Pam (Tracker Packer 3 format). Released at Assembly 96. review: Hmmm.... =) This is actually far from the worst Jormas intro I've seen, actually it's pretty cool. It features some nice design ideas, if not exactly mindblowing coding. Don't really know what else to say about it, except it's very pink and purple. Hehe. Check it for yourself. The full title of this intro is "ElastikDetroit TurskaPitch 62 Phonkee Phixed Edition". Or Detroit for short =) All routines run full speed (50fps) on a vanilla a500. Elektrik Baby (1998, 08.08, 64k Intro). production: Raato, Pekka Pou, Vesuri. 4th in the Assembly 98 64k intro competition. review: This, ladies and gentlemen, is actually not a bad little intro. They carve a style-all-of-their own, with this offbeat elektronika piece - both visually and audially. They choose to ride off-piste, so to say - with no illusions of winning the compos, but rather participating with style. I really like this, it's bold, brave and unafraid. Dare to be different - like the Jormas. They're definitely unique. [glenn] GLE tested A1200/030-50/2mb chip, 16mb fast/3.1. Juliet & Case (1994-1995) ------------------------- Two finnish friends started coding demos, and released their first production, called "CCCP" at the Assembly 94, finishing 5th. A year passed, and at The Assembly 95 they released "C42", which also came in fifth. This time, though, some groups stood up and took notice of the coder duo. They were quickly headhunted to Stellar, but soon after moved on to a more permanent home in CNCD. CCCP (1994, 06.08, Demo). code: Juliet & Case, gfx: n/a, music: Groo/CNCD. 5th in The Assembly 94 demo competition. C42 (1995, 12.08, AGA File). code: Juliet & Case, gfx: none, music: Groo. 5th in The Assembly 95 demo competition. review: There are no graphics in C42, just 3d worlds and objects. There are butterflies, flowers, bees and other stuff from the real world emulated. The way this is put together makes it more reminiscent of a dark piece of video experimentation than a demo. Original, if nothing else. Groo's music is easily forgettable. This would be their last demo as independents. Please note that none of the effects are fullscreen, but are displayed in a more limited space in the centre of the screen. [glenn] GLE tested A1200/030-50/2mb chip, 16mb fast/3.0. Jump ---- ITA> Bluelight (sysop 'ASYLUM', 91). USA> The Ringthane (sysop 'HARPOON', 91). ???> Angeldawn (gfx, ex Possessed), Lou Van B (music, ex Abyss), Lowtec. Jump were the producers of the "World Charts", later produced by Scoopex after some key members (Angeldawn and others) joined that group. Autopsy joined Model. Swedes Alis (sysop 'ANOTHER WORLD', 91) and Frosty joined D-Mob. Salvatore (ex Possessed) left the scene. Cyclotron (old handle RCB, ex Surprise! Productions) joined Alpha Flight. World Charts #2 (1991, ECS FileChart). code: n/a, gfx: Angeldawn, music: "Satanic" by n/a (ProTracker MOD format). review: Well, this issue of World Charts is pretty basic. Its main asset, as has always been the case with this particular chartmag, is the graphics. The are recognizably by Angeldawn, though signed 'IB' rather than his standard 'AD' - perhaps an indication to his real name? _NO_ credits are given anywhere, strangely, except a small graphic saying 'moral support and votecollecting by Autopsy' when it starts. This means Autopsy was involved in the production, but likely not as a member of Jump. The menus are unusually enough keyboard-controlled, with the cursor keys and return serving to select the different chart categories. A press of the space bar takes us to a separate part, with board ads, and another press takes us back. The music is atrocious. The Jump boards advertised in this intro was 'HARPOON' (WHQ), 'ANOTHER WORLD' (EHQ) and 'ASYLUM'. [glenn] World Charts #3 (1991, ECS FileChart). code: n/a, gfx: Angeldawn, music: "Introfronty" by Dezecrator/Classic (ProTracker MOD format). review: Apart from a new (and better) introductory Jump logo, and the fact that most of the categories have changed, everything is identical to the last issue, so I will refrain from explaining it all over again. Dezecrator's module is wellknown, and was first used in a crack intro by Classic. It seems unlikely that they were given permission to use it. This was the last issue of World Charts under Jump; subsequent issues were released by Model. The Jump boards advertised in this intro was 'HARPOON' (WHQ), 'ANOTHER WORLD' (EHQ) and 'ASYLUM', just like last time.
