generally...

After the AGA chipset was introduced with the A1200 and A4000 last year,
productions utilising the new chipset started becoming a little more common
in 1994. These new machines were quickly accepted as the new standard, and
not only demos and intro competitions benefitted; the new graphics modes
allowed for better pictures, and the 2mb of chipram allowed for larger
modules. Unless anyone can prove us wrong, Assembly 94 was the first ever
instance of a 4k intro competition at a major party. 1994 was the year the
very first pure scene cd-rom for the Amiga was released, Almathera's
"Euroscene 1". This was also the year Commodore introduced Kickstart and
Worbench 3.1 (the amiga OS), and their last ever amiga, the tower A4000T.

The game "Dragonstone" was released by Core Design for the amiga and cd32,
with intro coding by Derek Leigh-Gilchrist (Del/ex Anarchy) and music by
Martin Iveson (Spaceman/Lemon.). Another scene-related amiga game was
"Elfmania" from Terramarque (developers) and Renegade (publishers). The
credits read like this: code by Savi Ka (Saviour/CNCD, later Damones) and
Antti Toiviainen (Tai-Pan/CNCD), graphics by Golem (/ex Carillon, using his
handle rather than his name), and music by Allan M. and Prime Premium
(/CNCD, real name Ville Hyvonen, also using his handle rather than his
name).

The game "One Must Fall" was released by Epic Megagames for the pc,
featuring music by Kenny Chou (aka C.C.Catch/Renaissance).

chronologically...

Nothing very interesting was released in the first few months of the year,
as the scene recovered from The Party. It was not until april that something
started happening again... The major easter party was naturally The
Gathering, where Andromeda won the most prestigious amiga award with their
demo "Sequential". It was followed in the demo competition by Cryptoburners'
"Brain State In A Box" and Polka Brothers "Friday At Eight". The intro
competition was won by Stone Arts "Bjarne", followed by Spaceballs' "Funky
Pixels" and another Stone Arts intro, "Rush". The graphics competition was
won by Fairfax/Andromeda with his classic "Zz.Madman" followed by Tony/Razor
1911 and Archmage/Razor 1911. The music competition was won by pc scener
Svolkraq/Gollum with the beautiful "Sound O' Da Lunatic" (the first time a
major music competition was won by a pc scener!), followed by Mr.Man/
Andromeda and Dice/Polka Brothers. The pc demo competition was won by Five
with "Superunknown" and the intro competition by Gollum with "Das Grelle".

But The Gathering was not the only interesting party in april; Hammering 94
in hungary brought us a classic pc demo in the shape of Majic 12's "Show"
and the Saturne Party 2 in france gave us Gengis' last demo for Complex,
"Real". After this, not much happened. May gave us Nostalgia's pc demo
"Echoes of the Past" at Bizarre 95, june gave us Virtual Dreams' amiga demo
"Love" at the South Sealand party.

Then came august and Assembly in finland. The amiga demo competition was won
by Stellar with "Mindflow", followed by Virtual Dreams' "Breathtaker" and
Parallax' "Drool This". The intro competition was won by last year's demo
competition winners Pygmy Projects with the revolutionary 3d intro
"G-Force" - a production that probably changed the way the amiga scene made
demos and intros forever, by once and for all taking us into the third
dimentsion... The runner-ups were Razor 1911 with "Falu Red Color" and
Stellar with the atmospheric "Darkroom". The pc demo competition was won by
Electromotive Force with "Verses", and the intro competition by Prime with
"Airframe". In what was probably the first ever instance of a 4k intro
competition at a major party, Dust won with their intro "Stoned". The c64
demo competition was won by Beyond Force with "Attack of Stobidos 3",
followed by Byetrapers with "World of Code II" and the "Best Of" Trinomic.
The graphics competition was won by Destop/CNCD, followed by Hotshot/Complex
and Louie/Insane, who was later disqualified - and the third position
awarded to R.W.O and Zinko from Polka Brothers. The four channel music
competition was won by Lizardking/Triton and Razor 1911, followed by
Petroff/Absolute! and Yolk/Parallax, while the multichannel competition was
won by Stargazer/Sonic followed by Cube/Aggression and again Lizardking/
Triton and Razor 1911.

The scene dropped into another slump for the remaining months up towards the
natural demoscene climax of the year, The Party. But at least a couple of
interesting releases were made, like the reborn Rebels' winner demo
"Switchback" at the Doom's Day Party 94 in Germany and the c64 demos "World
of Code 3" by Byterapers and "Lameness Rules" by Oxyron at the Tribute 94
party in Sweden.

But the entire scene was waiting for The Party, and come december a nuch of
interesting releases saw the light of day at the most important scene party
of all. Andromeda won their second major demo competition of the year with
what was also the year's best demo - "Nexus 7". Unfortunately for the scene,
this was also the last thing Andromeda ever released =[ It was followed by a
plethora of great demos, with Virtual Dreams' "Psychedelic" (2nd), Bomb's
"Motion: Origin 2" (3rd, followup to last year's winner demo "Origin"
released for Complex, and featuring the best amiga Doom routine by far!),
The Silents' "Soulkitchen" (4th), Rebels' "Whammer Slammer" (5th), Polka
Brothers' "The Prey" (6th), Melon Dezign's "Ninja" (7th) and Sanity's
"Roots" (8th). The intro competition was won by Polka Brothers with "4k0",
followed by Fresh Prince's "McIntro" and Passion's "Nitte!". Intros like
Virtual Dreams' "Doodle-Doo" (4th), TPDL's "Hollywood Mood" (6th) and
Stellar's "Peverly Hills" (7th) also deserve mention. Amiga sceners were
beginning to leak over to the pc scene, and this year's pc demo competition
made that all too evident: The winners were Impact Studios with "Project
Angel" (featuring Bomb! members), followed by Nooon's "No!" (featuring
Sanity members) and The CoExistence's "Contagion". The intro competition was
won by JMagic/Complex' "Cyboman 2", followed by Valhalla's "Peripheral
Vision" and Jamm's "Finkel". The c64 demo competition was won by Reflex'
"Access Denied", followed by Light's "Brutal Comeback" and Wrath's "Courtesy
of Sovjet". The graphics competition was won by Peachy/Masque with one of
the most strange pictures ever to win a major graphics compo, of that I can
assure you! =] It was followed by pictures by Ra/Sanity and Nooon and
Mirage/Bonzai. The four channel music competition was won by
Hithansen/Rednex with the supremely funky "Electric Church", followed by
tunes from Dreamer/TRSI and Zulu & Grey/Rebels. The multichannel music
competition was won by Zodiak/Cascada, followed by Moby & Ra/Nooon and
finally Lizardking/Triton.

     .01 The Rainbow Party - Radwar V7.
----------------------------------------
Held at the disco "Chez Renzo" in Heinberg, Germany by Radwar Enterprises,
Spreadpoint and TRSI. It was as much a social, alcohol-consuming happening
as it was a demo party, though there WOULD be a demo competition. It was to
be a three day party, friday to sunday, and the date would be either 15-16,
22-23 or 30-31. To sum up, here's a priceless quote from the invitation:
"People who cannot behave themselves will get MORE beer until they CAN."

· Information from invitation printed in Regina's "Pulse #5" (c64 diskmag).

07-09.01 Global Gathering 94.
------------------------------
GLO94 was held at the Bekasmegyer Community Center in Budapest, Hungary by
The Studio and Technix for the amiga and pc scenes. The price for attendance
was 350 forints for all three days, and an additional 100 if you were
bringing your own computer. A separate movie room was promised, showing new
movies. Food would be available both inside the building, as well as in two
nearby supermarkets and a McDonalds. There would also be separate sleeping
quarters. No alcohol would be served, but people were allowed to drink if
they didn't get too drunk - then they'd be shown away. Smoking was generally
not allowed, just a small area would be reserved for this. Demo, intro,
graphics and music (4ch only) competitions would be held. Naturally, we're
searching for confirmation that this party was really held, and if so,
results from the competitions...

------------------------------
TEP94 was held by Smash Designs (c64), Crystal (amiga), Phasematic (pc) and
Tristar Red Sector (amiga) in a large sportshall in Frechen-Habbelrath about
15km outside Cologne, Germany. According to the invitation, drinking was
allowed. Competitions for pc (demo gfx music), amiga (demo gfx music),
commodore 64 (demo gfx music), archimedes (demo) and super nintendo (demo)
were held, but apparently no cash prizes were given out. All entries
supposedly to be shown on 6 by 4 meters big screen. Any additional info on
this party would be most welcome.

--------------------------
Held at easter time, probably in Belgium, by Outlaws (pc amiga) and Therapy
(amiga). The pc music competition was cancelled since there were no entries.
The 3rd-placer in the pc gfx competition, Kaitty Cat, is a girl. This is
ofcourse highly unconfirmed, but I believe this was the first time a female
participant has been placed in the top 3 at any party. Progress, guys! =]

29.3-3.04 The Gathering 94 (http://www.crusaders.no).
-----------------------------------------------------
TG94 was held at Rykkinhallen outside Oslo, Norway by The Crusaders and
Deadline. This was the first year that AGA graphics were allowed in the demo
and graphics competitions, and it was also the first year that an official
pc demo competition was held. Modules were still 4ch only. Oh, how things
would change in just a few short years...
Ex-Crusaders musician Bjørn "Dr.Awesome" Lynne took the opportunity to
host a release party at TG for his new cd "Montage". Origo/C-Lous' 40k amiga
intro 'Suicidal Tendensy' was disqualified because he'd forgotten to change
a memory routine. He was reportedly VERY upset. The intro was still released
at the party, though.

07-09.04 The Hammering 94.
---------------------------
HAM94 was held at Varosmajori Gimnazium in Budapest, Hungary by Absolute!
(amiga) and Majic 12 (pc). News in Scoopex' packmag "Never Mind" #48 that
the date was to be 1-3 is incorrect. TSC/Phantom Design released a text file
(The Truth About the Hammering-94) with the release of their demo "Demonic",
criticizing the party. The reasons for this is the greatly reduced prices,
the absence of the promised bigscreen for the compos, the voting system and
other things. Results pieced together, but they are still most incomplete,
help wanted!

------------------------------------------------------------------
ASM94 was held in Helsinki, Finland by Accession, Movement, Virtual Dreams
(amiga), Future Crew, Sonic PC (pc) and The Sharks (c64). There was a total
of 2800 whole weekend visitors, and 600 short visit visitors, which means
it was the biggest party held so far! Media coverage was high, with even a
CNN news crew making an appearance. Several outdoor competitions were held;
modem throwing was won by Silicon Swindler (14m), hard disk throwing by
Chronic/Leper Society (23m), disk throwing by Diabolo/Clones (79,9m!), the
soccer competition by Exotic Men and Sarvet, and finally kite flying (of all
things!) by Illuminator/Accession.
Amiga demo and intro contributions were shown on an A1200 with 4MB
fastmem. Demos could not exceed 4 disks, and HAD to be HD installable.
Louie's picture was disqualified because it was copied from a cover from
Heavy Metal Magazine, and only original artwork was allowed to participate.
This results list is composited from several sources, as you can see below,
and is probably the most complete record of results that will ever be
published. In addition to the sources below, some extra detective work has
revealed a few more releases and details. We can guarantee that there is no
other, more complete record of results from this party! :)

11-12.08 Intel Outside 94.
---------------------------
IO94 was held at the Stodola Student Club in Warzaw, Poland by Mystic and
Union for the amiga scene. This was the first of several Intel Outside
parties, and due to heavy advertising in Poland's largest amiga magazine at
the time, Magazyn Amiga, about 500 people showed up for the event! This made
it (probably) the biggest scene event so far in Poland. It was also the
first polish scene event to feature live music; a disco-techno-pop band
called Jamrose performed on the stage. The organizers hired a stripper to
perform at the event also, though this was reportedly a more impulsive idea.
The main organizer was Easy Rider, with support from Mr.Root (pr), Docent
(money, hardware, software), The Generat (compos) and Irek P. (spreading).
The first price for the demo competition was an A1200 (or possibly an A600,
details are sketchy). It was probably the one and only polish party with a
professional sound engineer, plus a steam and light show during the music
performance. A small cafeteria was open throughout the event, until they
eventually ran out of food and beverages...

02-04.09 Sea, Soft, Sun (3S) Party.
------------------------------------
3S was held in Saint-Esteve, near Perpignan in France by Solaris and
Dreamdealers, and this was the first time it was arranged. About 200 people
attended. The 64k intro competition was held mixed between the amiga and pc,
likely the first time in history that occured. A second 3S party was held
two years later, in the summer of 1996.
In addition to the results below, a 20k music competition was also held,
of which no results are sadly known yet. Some confusion appears to exist
about which of the two Oxygene demos actually won, and which came third...

30.9-2.10 Happening 94.
-----------------------
HAP94 was held at Nordskogen Skole in Horten, Norway by Spetsnaz for the
amiga and pc scenes. This is reportedly the third time this small party is
being arranged. There were no ordinary demo/intro compos, just graphics,
music and DOOM deathmatch =[

08-09.10 Doom's Day Party 94.
------------------------------
DSD94 was held in Ettlingenweiler, Germany by by DCS, Skid Row, Zig Zag Corp
and World of Twist. It was the first party held in southern Germany for
years. Unfortunately for the organizers, it was not the expected success. Of
the expected 700 visitors, only about 250 showed up. 11 pictures, 36
modules, 6 demos, 4 tools and 1 game were submitted to the competitions. The
c64 and snes competitions were cancelled due to the fact that no entries
were submitted. Rebels were not paid money for their winning demo, since it
did not comply with the rules of the competiton (required 030). Version 1.2
was released later and was fully 020 compatible. The Party lasted only 13
hours, 8 hours less than promised, and therefore only 4 hours into the 9th.

WIR94 was held in Belgium for the amiga and pc, and this was probably the
first time it was arranged. The points system meant you voted for your top
three in each category, and then the first was given three points, second
got two points and third got one point. There were only two entries each for
the amiga demo and intro competitions. The theme of the Surprise competiton
for the pc was: code a 4k intro in two hours, containing the word 'WiRED'.
Wired was also held the next year.

     .11 Tribute Party 94.
---------------------------
TRI94 was held at a large school in Gothenburg, Sweden for the c64 scene.
150 people attended, and came all the way from countries like norway,
denmark, germany, holland, hungary and poland! The place was arranged with
groups in classrooms, and competitions in the aula. Equipment for the
competitions were of a high standard; large screen and powerful stereo.
Despite it being promised in the invitation, there was no 24h cafeteria - it
was open from 10.00 to 22.00 only. A scene-equivalent of popular tv gameshow
jeopardy was arranged on the second day! :) In addition to the competitions
below, there was also a demo competition for 64's with REU's (expanded
memory), but only one demo (by Fairlight) was delivered. There were many
fakedemos in the competitions, and people were also disappointed at the
prizes for the competitions - first price for gfx and music was almost the
same as the entrance fee!
It was held over an entire weekend (three days), but the exact date is
still uncertain... Naturally we'd welcome any help in pinpointing it.

original Euskal, the second party was held as a Spanish alternative to The
Party. 220 people turned up this second time around. This was the last of
the Euskals to be Amiga only. The following year, with Euskal 3, the PC
owners were let in on the fun. The winning 'demo' is a 70k intro!

27-30.12 The Party 1994 - Don't Try This At Home (http://www.theparty.org).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TP94 was held at Herning Messecenter in Herning, Denmark by by The Silents,
Spaceballs and Bomb! About 2700 people showed up. The official CD-ROM was
called "The Party 1994 - Try This At Home", and I'm desperately searching
for a copy :) Anyone with offers, please get in touch to negotiate a deal.
Zulu & grey came 3rd in the 4ch music competition, but a lot of things
point towards the fact that the composer of the tune was actually Chromag/
Rebels, who couldn't attend.
Thanks to a little detective work, OUR results also include the full C64
results and the machine specifications and producers from the Wild compo,
not present in the original file. Fully Scenery integrated.
