Hello everyone, HVSC Update #30 is now available for you to download. It was six years since The Shark came up with the idea of HVSC, and neither he nor I expected us to reach thirty updates, but here we are :) This update is mainly a maintenance release with 170 fixed SIDs. Most of those are to make the SID files compliant with a real C64 and Sidplay2 emulator, which should please the diehard C64 users out there. There's also quite a few new and good SIDs in there too. After this update, the collection should contain 18,133 SID files. This update features (all approximates): 401 new SIDs 170 fixed/better rips 2 repeats/bad rips eliminated 102 SID credit fixes Main Artists Featured In This Update (new additions only): DRAX Abject Ass It Avalon Nantco Bakker Imaic Iron Cat Merman mITCH & dANE Moon Puterman László Simon (Roy) (SLD) and many more... --------------------------- What's to come next update? --------------------------- Hopefully next update we shall see some of the following: * More fixes for real C64 and Sidplay2 compliance * The competition entries from Mekka Symposium 2002 * The competition entries from Floppy 2002 ---------------- HVSC User Survey ---------------- For the first time ever, the HVSC is surveying its users. HVSC is now 30 updates old, and at this time we feel it important to survey the users of the collection and SID fans in general about how they use the collection day to day, as well as look to the future and see how any changes we may make to HVSC may affect you. The topics covered include: - what C64 and SID emulators are used by SID fans - how the users browse HVSC and what would work for them - awareness of HVSC's added value services - the Sidplay2 emulator and evaluation for those who've used it - the proposed SID file format change known as PSIDv2NG Your feedback is very important to the whole HVSC Team, and should help to plan out the future for the collection in the long term as well as getting an idea of the current user base and how they use the collection as of now. Also note that one randomly drawn participant will win a prize of two CDs of their choice, so please do fill out the survey as you may yet win something for just a few minutes of your time. The survey can be located here: http://www.hvsc.c64.org/User_Survey/ Many thanks The HVSC Team ------------------------- Sidplay2/Windows released ------------------------- Sidplay2, as you know, has been in development for some time. However recently the Windows GUI port was released so you get the same look and feel as Sidplay/Windows, but with Sidplay2 emulation for more cycle accurate renditions of all your favourite tunes. And users have reacted on the whole positively after this release. Feel free to grab your Windows copy today at: http://www.student.nada.kth.se/~d93-alo/c64/spw/ For all other versions, please refer to the Sidplay2 page: http://sidplay2.sourceforge.net/ -------------------------- Sidplay2 Problem SIDs page -------------------------- You may find, as Sidplay2 is more strict and like a C64 environment, that some of your SID tunes do not play. Please refer to the following page for more information: http://www.hvsc.c64.org/News/sidplay2problems.html This carries a current list of known non-working SIDs. Please do report any such SID files to us that don't work so we can ensure they are worked on and fixed. --------------------------------------------- "Best of VARIOUS 2001" Results Now Available! --------------------------------------------- Best of VARIOUS (BOV) is a project that gives well deserving recognition to SID musicians who have tunes in HVSC's /VARIOUS directory. Some of you may be already familiar with BOV after last year's inaugural release. Now, in 2001, the voters have spoken and appended to the collection with 207 more tunes give a total of 696 (less than 5% of /VARIOUS). Please check out the BOV web site to see which tunes were recognised: http://www.dhp.com/~shark/BOV/ -------------------------- Back In Time Live 3 Update -------------------------- Back in Time Live 3, Gossips, Soho, 21st June 2002. You really need to be there or be a triangle.. At the moment the guest list is looking more and more impressive by the day. Amongst those who've recently said they will come along include: Simon Nicol (author of Crazy Comets and Mega Apocalypse) Jan Lund Thomsen (Kwed of remix.kwed.org fame) Adam Gilmore (musician of Draconus, Zybex, and many more) Paul Norman (musician of Forbidden Forest, Super Huey etc) Reyn Ouwehand (musician of Last Ninja 3 and Nexus 64 CD) James Burrows (Gamebase 64) Slaygon (www.c64.org) And the list is increasing by the day, along with more live acts performing on the night, compered by Ben Daglish! For all the info you need, including directions to the club, where to stay etc please consult the official site: http://www.backintimelive.com/ ----------------------------------------------- YODELKING & UL-TOMTEN'S SID QUIZ #2 ----------------------------------------------- INFO ==== You think you know all those old SIDs by heart? Here's your chance to prove your skills against other SID lovers. We have made a mix of twentyseven of our favourite SIDs, anywhere in the tune, and not always the default tune of the SID in question. The heavy digis were made by Inge H. Pedersen. Do you know what SIDs we are mixing? Get the SID Quiz today from: http://w1.462.telia.com/~u46205668/sidquiz02.zip (24 KB) You can use either the sid in your favourite sidplayer, or use the Fishbrain.prg on a real C-64. To make it a little easier to hear the tunes, we've made a second subtune without the digis. Who would have thought that? With ex-Zzap! editor Gordon Houghton doing the editing, several of the old staff (including Robin Hogg and Paul Glancey) helping out along with a selection of scene veterans and Zzap! fans, the new issue is 36 pages full of game reviews, hardware hints, game tips, and lots of great editorial to boot. You won't find it in the shops: however you can download the magazine in PDF format for viewing/printing. It has taken around six months to get it all together, but the teamwork shown has been excellent and this shows in the magazine. Snag your copy today at: http://www.zzap64.co.uk/ --------------------------------- Enjoy the new update, and please be sure to fill out the HVSC User Survey - your feedback is very important to us.
