This update features (all approximates): 667 new SIDs 32 fixed/better rips 1 repeats/bad rips eliminated 329 SID credit fixes Main Artists Featured In This Update: DRAX Feekzoid Agemixer A-Man Amorphis (Froyd) Arne Ass It Nantco Bakker Banana Kjell Nordbř (Blues Muz') Djinn Dune Fate Gangstar Gero Harlequin Iron Cat JB Phobos Rabbi Rap Scarlet Shogun Signor László Simon SounDemoN Stax Tjagvad Trident VIP Walt Markus Weber Wisdom The Gee (Xentax) Yuro Zirco and many more... Incidentally, the HVSC update tool has been tested on beta versions of Windows XP and has been found to work, so it should work on the final release version. ---------------------------------------- So what else is new in this update then? ---------------------------------------- We managed to find several old and rare pieces from your favourite C64 composers, including the music to the game Pedro by Fred Gray, the previously unreleased tune Comec from Moppe (released with his permission), two more tunes from Rock of Finnish Gold, and an old Jeroen Tel Soundmonitor tune, to name but a few. Added to that, there are the C64 music competition tunes from the LCP 2001, Core 2001 and Assembly 2001 parties. Some very nice tunes were made, so do take the time to listen to them for yourself. And plenty of old game themes to keep everyone happy, including Empire, Hard Hat Mack, Tank Fight, the US version of Thunder Blade, Arcana and many more. --------------------------- What's to come next update? --------------------------- Hopefully next update we shall see some of the following: * The music competition tunes from X2001, being held soon. * More on the SID fixing to ensure C64 and Sidplay2 compliance. * Some more SID Hunt requests and a few more game themes. ------------------------------ Best of /VARIOUS 2001 due soon ------------------------------ The "Best of VARIOUS" project is coming back! This time around, the voting will be opened to the public. Look for more details in 1-2 weeks. Until then, check out last year's results at http://www.dhp.com/~shark/BOV and familiarise yourself with the project if you haven't done so already. The brainchild of The Shark, the project highlights many great SIDs in the VARIOUS group of directories you may not have heard before. --------------------------------- Modules covered on the C64 update --------------------------------- As module fans know, there are a handful of SIDs in HVSC that cover popular modules. And many of you perhaps have seen STIL entries mentioning the modules. If you are interested in hearing some of these tunes, check out: http://hafnium.prg.dtu.dk/~theis/stil/MODs/ The collection has just been updated to include 15 more modules. See the web site for more information, and if you know of any modules missing, please send them to the email address listed under the web site's readme link. There's some nice ones in the update, including Breath of Air. --------------------- HardSID special offer --------------------- Yesterday, Sándor Téli of Hard Software, makers of the HardSID card, announced a special offer for those of you wishing to purchase the HardSID. The next fifteen customers who order their HardSID will be entitled to purchase them for $69 instead of $89, a fairly sizeable discount. Note though that the HardSID as standard comes without a SID chip, so do ensure you can source your own as well. Act quick if you wish to get one. For more information, please consult the HardSID site: http://www.hardsid.com/ ------------------------ Press Play On Tape Live! ------------------------ Some of you may have heard of the group Press Play on Tape, some of you may even have met them at the Back In Time Live event in Birmingham. Well, they're playing a concert in Copenhagen, Denmark next week. Here's the details from Sřren Trautner Madsen of the band: Finally it has happened: We (Press Play On Tape) have again conned someone to let us play live in public! The event will take place on October 17'th at Kaf-cafeen/Cafe-Teatret in the centre of Copenhagen (More specificly at: Skindergade 3). This place is usually a very hip and progressive place, so we need you all there to help us make the evening Nerdy and Regressive instead ;-) Little known facts about the event: The date _will_ be October 17th. Yes. It is a Wednesday. Press Play On Tape _will_ play live - starting around 22:30. Entrance _will_ be free. That is: FREE!!!! The Beers _will_ be cold. Girls _will_ be scarce (if not absent). So come down and say Hi and watch us Rock-i-fy your favourite SID's. Further information is available at the Press Play on Tape website at http://www.pressplayontape.com/ --------------- PSID64 released --------------- From Roland Hermans comes a new tool, PSID64. This nifty little tool makes it possible to play even more SIDs from HVSC on a real Commodore 64 than Real SIDplay could. It does this by generating a C64 .prg file from the .sid file which you can just load and run on the real thing. At the moment it's only available for Linux, but expect a Windows version soon. In the meantime, please consult: http://psid64.sourceforge.net Enjoy the new update, and the SID tunes within.
